Pilots Table – Organizing nursing care differently

19/06/2026

Oost-Vlaanderen
New roles, new teams, new expectations.
The organization of nursing care is under pressure.

Many healthcare organizations today are looking for ways to organize nursing care differently. Care teams are changing, new profiles are emerging and the pressure on the workplace remains high.

During this Pilots Table, we will bring together healthcare organizations around three concrete projects from practice. In a small-scale setting of maximum 20 participants, we will discuss how nursing care can be organized today so that it remains feasible, high quality and people-centered.

We do this around the table, over a shared three-course lunch, where there is room for open exchange of experiences, questions and insights.

Together with Health Campus Limburg and the THINK³ Simulation & Innovation Lab of UHasselt we will discuss three concrete case studies that each look at the organization of nursing care from a different angle.

Friday, June 19, 2026 - 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Three projects around nursing care

The role of complexity in the organization of nursing care

Prof. Dr. Jochen Bergs – Professor of systems innovation in healthcare, THINK³ Simulation & Innovation Lab UHasselt

Basic nursing autonomy is linked to the complexity of the care situation. But how do you translate that concept concretely into practice?

Jochen Bergs discusses the impact of this on the organization of care, division of labor and professional autonomy within nursing teams.

Structured care teams and the role of the primary care nurse

Uschi Colemonts – Staff member, East Limburg Hospital (ZOL)

Uschi Colemonts focuses on the organization of care through structured care teams and the role of the primary care nurse in them. Her insights are based on a pilot study in the workplace.

She highlights how team structures can contribute to workability and quality of care. Moreover, the role of the primary nurse will receive additional topicality: the first primary nurses will graduate in June.

Missed nursing care and the TEAM check

Eveline Van Steenkiste – PhD student UHasselt & Head nurse in geriatrics, Jessa Hospital

Eveline Van Steenkiste’s project focuses on missed nursing care: care that nurses normally perform, but due to time constraints or other factors are unable to accomplish or delay.

With the TEAM check, she developed an approachable method that takes “missed care” out of the individual sphere and translates it into shared team responsibility. Initial results show a promising impact on both the care organization and the well-being of nurses.

What is a Pilots Table?

A Pilots Table is a small-scale and interactive meeting within the In4Care Community.

We bring together a small group of healthcare organizations around a concrete challenge from practice. Not a classic study day, but an open conversation between experts and participants, with room to share experiences, insights and questions.

Over a communal three-course lunch, participants engage in conversation at the table and exchange after each course. This creates a setting in which ideas can grow faster, collaborations emerge and innovation gets closer to reality.

The goal is to share insights and practical experiences that participants can take back to their own organizations.

For whom.

This Pilots Table focuses on executives and policy profiles who help shape the organization of nursing care, including:

  • Nursing directors
  • Care managers/staff quality and policy staff.
  • Directors of residential care centers

The list is not exhaustive. Other profiles involved at the strategic level in the organization of nursing care are also welcome.

Why participate?

  • Discover three concrete projects around the organization of nursing care
  • Exchange experiences with healthcare organizations struggling with the same challenges
  • Take away insights on new roles, team structures and workability of care teams

For both In4Care members and non-members – three-course lunch included – Interactive conversations at the table
